VISIT A PROF
I spoke to Professor Pinar Yoldas on Monday May 6th during her office hours. I had her play through my website and it became immediately obvious that it was difficult to navigate if you didn't already know exactly what was going on. The feedback she gave me reflected this. She told me that it might benefit the project if I added an indicator that a particular link had already been clicked so when a user is exploring, they know if they have already gone down a particular path before.
After talking to her I researched a little bit and it is definitely possible, but not really feasible given my skill level, time limit, and aesthetic goals. However, I am working now on adding small indicators to point the user in the direction of links, but not indicating whether they have been clicked previously or not. I am hoping this decreases frustration without decreasing the mystery and interest of searching for links within a picture.
Overall Pinar said she liked the project and it reminded her of website art from the 90's, which was something I was referencing on purpose, so I'm glad that came through. Her final suggestion was to incorporate other kinds of media into the site, particularly sounds and music. I have been wanting to have multiple mediums on the site from the beginning, but adding video or gifs is not a priority right now. Maybe after the show. As far as sound, I personally use the internet 99% with the sound muted, and I don't want to go through the effort of including sound if no one will be hearing them. So that's something else I will save for much farther down the line.
